Data, Information and Information
Management

Hello! My name is Nehat Dedinca and I come from Kosovo. Now I am doing foundation programs and until now everything is going well. To tell the truth for that subject I am here. I want to study IT for undergraduation. This subject (Information technology) is the subject that I like the most. No doubt, it will be the most interesting for me until I finish my studies. I have a little bit knowledge about it, but I expect to gain the majority of knowledge from my lecturer. I like the way how Ms. Nur Khairunnisha Zainal teaches. I am gaining a lot from her and also from the other lecturer. This is the subject which I am going to learn with all my passion about it and I do not think that I will get tired learning IT.

The first topic that we learnt in Information technology was “Data, Information and Information Management”. Before Ms. Nur Khairunnisha Zainal our lecturer, started to explain about it I asked myself what I know about this topic?! I was really embarrassed to myself. I knew a little bit for Data and Information, but for information management I did not know anything at all.

At first, Ms. Nisha gave us an introduction about the subject and some essential information about that. She taught us the basic operations of computer that a computer can perform then she moved to evolution of computers. I think that is really good thing to know for them who want to study IT. It’s good to know a bit about the history of computers.

So, I learnt the computer has 5 generation and every single one has their own characteristics. I also learnt about categories of computer. I knew some of them, but for some I had never heard.

I learnt what is Data and Information too. Which are the basic elements of information? How do computers represent data? Data communication? Why computer network is significant? Those are the question that now I can easily give an answer.

The class was being more and more interesting for me. Moreover, we learnt a new topic for me. Information management was the topic that was totally new for me. I learnt definition of information management. I also learnt which systems information management encompasses.

The class in general was great for me. I gained a lot of knowledge and know I am aware of the things that were explained by Ms. Nisha. I just hope to keep it on and to stay focused during the class and to recall it too.

Topic 2

ICT and IT

The second topic that was explained by our lecturer was ICT and IT. Before she started I thought what I know about those terms. For IT I have already known the definition and the role in our daily life. For ICT I knew something but not enough. So, I wondered what I can gain about IT and ICT. Ms. Nisha started to explain to us about ICT. At first she let us to be familiar with the topic and explained the basic things about it. To what refers ICT? Where ICT focuses? What it includes? Those are the first question that I got the answers after Ms. Nisha taught us.

Then she continued teaching us about usage of ICT in daily life. Before, for that part I did not think much, but now I know what kind of role plays ICT in daily life and how important is it. The second part was about usage of ICT in education. For that part I had some information and I already knew what the lecturer is going to talk. The last one was about usage of ICT in banking. Also for this I had a little bit knowledge, but after the lesson I got more that I already had. After explaining she continued with some examples to make it more clearly for us.

I have already had the path for the IT topic. I knew the definition of IT. What I gained was the information technology architecture and infrastructure. I also learnt some type of information system (IS). Our lecturer explained us about the structure of information technology. She took a graph and base on that she make us crystal the definition of information technology infrastructure.

In general this topic gave me a lot of knowledge and I hope to go deeper and to find more information about ICT and IT.

Topic 3

Information System

The next topic was about information system (IS). To tell the truth I had very little knowledge about this topic, but I was really interested to know that is it. When the class started, first we did some recap about the previous topic and then continued with the new one. Ms. Nisha asked us about Information System but very few students knew about it and gave the definitions from their own knowledge. Then she taught us the definition of information system (IS). She also told is where we use the information system like in organization like business, people and information. 

The next thing that I learnt is that information system can be divided in two parts and then each part can be divided in 3 other underparts. I also learnt which were the components that we use to create an information system. The last thing is that now I know what information system does. 

In general this topic gave me a lot of knowledge and hopefully I will create an information system as soon as possible.

Topic 4

Database Management

After a break from one week we got back on with lessons and I was ‘charged’ and ready for another half of trimester. The first topic of the second part of trimester was about ‘Database Management’. Before Ms. Nisha started to teach us I guessed about what is the database. I had some information but again I was not very clear but thanks to Ms. Nisha like always she makes us crystal things.

She explained us about database definition, application, function of database, database components, fundamentals of database, and so on. Then she continued with Database Management System (DBMS). This was the most interesting part that I learned in this topic because I did not have any information about DBMS I had never heard for that. After I got the first information about it I felt really good. Moreover, I learned about features of DBMS, types of database language, definitions and database models, how they can be connected between each other, types of database models and so on.

In conclusion, I would like to say that this topic was really useful for me because I learned a lot of things that I will use in my future. Some of things I did not know at all so for some things I can say that was strange for me before this topic, but after those became familiar to me.

Topic 5

Internet

This week was the most attractive week for me because the topic was about ‘Internet’ and I really like Internet (who doesn’t). 

The way how they created and the way how it works make it very interesting for me and I like to discover it more and more when I have free time. Of course, before Ms. Nisha started to explain us about this topic I had a lot of knowledge for it and all she explained for me was just revision of what I had learned before. However, there were some new things that Ms. Nisha mentioned and I had just a little bit knowledge for those.

She started to elaborate about what is internet, for what we use it, then a brief history of internet before we went deeper, services of internet, how to get access on internet as well as web (browsers), how server/client get on their structure and cooperate together, and so on.

In conclusion, from this week I learned more information about internet and I really enjoyed those because internet and IT is something that I like.

Topic 6

Web Application

This topic was not very welcome from me because I wanted to continue gaining knowledge from Ms. Nisha that day in day out become familiar with us. However, the last topic for ‘Information and Technology’ subject was Web Application. Also in that topic I had some information about it but I waited to get more of course. The week started like usual and everything went well.

Our lecturer started to teach us briefly information about definition of Internet and Web Application. After that she asked us for differences between Web Application and Internet. Unfortunately, the number of students who answered this question was not so high. However, she started teaching us about the differences and made for us very clear. 

Then, she started elaborating the web apps and the examples of browsers. She also made us clear that web apps commonly use a combination of script and client server. She told us about web pages, types of web and also for generation of the web. She went through the second generation and explained more about it but after that she explained also for the others generation briefly.

From this topic I gained a lot of knowledge about web application and internet-working process too. But at least I had special emotions and I felt not good when we finished because I had a great time with Ms. Nisha and also my classmates. I just hope that I am not going too fed up with those information and I will seek information about IT also in my UGP.
